An institution that seeks to capture funds to invest in financial or non-financial assets, such as goods, rights, securities, or other instruments. Examples of collective investment institutions include compartmentalized funds, fund-of-funds, exchange-traded funds, investment companies, or investment clubs. There are also non-financial collective investment institutions, such as real estate investment companies (REITs).
